improving cognitive performance one child at a time.

Using NASA licensed technology, we use neurofeedback as a viable alternative to medicating your child. Our methods are based on hard science and are measurable throughout the program. Our results have been remarkable and speak for themselves.

Gray Matters is Connecticut’s sole provider of this technology, developed by NASA to optimize pilots’ attention in the cockpit. Linking EEGs to flight simulators, they developed software to show pilots when their attention was wandering. They recognized this technology had huge potential for children struggling with attention issues, and they adapted their system from flight simulators to Playstations. The training is enjoyable, side-effect free, and the results are permanent.

Proven to be as effective as medication, our neurofeedback training offers an alternative to your choice of simply whether or not to medicate your child.

According to the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Clinics of North America Journal, 2005,

“Given the robust effect size of EEG biofeedback, which has repeatedly been shown to be equivalent to that of stimulant medication, it is easy to forget that the technique simply involves showing the trainee what his or her brain is doing.”

The system we offer is cutting edge in many ways. The specially adapted, NASA licensed hardware, enables children to control Playstation 2 games with their brainwaves, via a child-friendly EEG. With car racing games (such as Grand Turismo) the speed of the car is directly controlled by the amplitude of beta waves from the brain. As children develop the ability to speed-up their car, they are teaching their brain the mechanism for focus and attention that will help them reach their potential in the real world.

Every system is uniquely programmed to address each child’s needs and is constantly monitored and re-assessed as needed. Our unique technology allows the majority of the training to take place at home, thereby reducing visits to the clinic and keeping treatment costs down. Significantly, children are working with normal Playstation games, so the therapy is fun and therefore more effective.
